My Hipsterific Fixie
I haven't been on a bike since mine got stolen about 10 years ago when I still lived in Berlin. I moved to the US pretty soon after that, and haven't lived in a particularly bike-friendly place since.
Here in Philadelphia, it seems like everyone's on a bike. And it only makes sense: Parking is a nightmare and traffic can be pretty bad. You can get to most places in Center City faster by bike than by car. That doesn't even include the time it takes to look for a parking spot once you arrive, which can be anywhere from 0 - 30 minutes. So in short: I wanted needed a bike.
There are a couple of great bike shops here and I just found what I had been looking for: A nice looking, affordable, and simple city-bike. Behold my Felt Brougham from Breakaway Bikes:
It's a well-reviewed single-gear bike with a flip-flop hub, which means I can turn it into a fixie by, well, flipping the rear wheel around. I love the simplicity of it and look forward to exploring the city by bike.
